This white paper focuses on agency-level insights and recommendations from the ACT-IAC IT Spend Standardization project team. These recommendations are in the pursuit of operational efficiency and fiscal responsibility for the Federal government. This document reviews the numerous federal initiatives aimed at standardizing and streamlining the collection of data pertaining to Information Technology (IT) expenditures. The ultimate objective of advancing these efforts is to lay the groundwork for future automation, thereby enhancing the government’s ability to manage and optimize its IT investments.
This white paper is a focused version of a larger effort and serves as a critical evaluation of the strategies that have been explored to date and alternative opportunities to standardize agency IT spending. It provides an in-depth analysis of the various approaches and considers the complexity, level of effort, and the political considerations that inevitably influence decision-making.
