This panel brings together cybersecurity leaders from healthcare, energy, and financial services to discuss how they are protecting mission-critical systems, managing sector-specific risks, and strengthening resilience against evolving threats. The conversation will explore shared challenges, regulatory pressures, and practical strategies for defending the systems society depends on most.

Speaker Bios
Shawna Hofer is the Chief Information Security Officer at St Luke’s Health System, dedicated to helping secure the non-profit’s mission to improve the health of people in the communities served across 9 Idaho hospitals and over 200 clinics. Her experience includes a decade in healthcare technology and cybersecurity at St. Luke's and prior work at Deloitte & Touché, LLP in risk consulting.
Shawna has a bachelor’s in business administration in accountancy from Boise State University and a master’s in accountancy, specializing in accounting information systems, from San Diego State University. She holds certifications as a HealthCare Information Security and Privacy Practitioner (HCISPP), Certified Healthcare Information Security Leader (CHISL), and Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA).
Outside work, Shawna is active with the Institute for Pervasive Cybersecurity at Boise State University and participates in various college, community, and technology boards. She is committed to integrating her technical expertise in cybersecurity with collaborative efforts to strengthen security not just at St. Luke’s but throughout her community and the entire healthcare sector.
Kenneth (KC) Carnes II currently serves as the VP Cybersecurity & Chief Information Security Officer of the Tennessee Valley Authority. KC is also designated as the Chief Artificial Intelligence Officer and the agency’s Federal Senior Intelligence Coordinator. Starting in nuclear generation, KC has spent his career in public power in various regions and has been in the industry for over twenty-five years. He has experience supporting all verticals of electric operations, from the perspectives of security, resiliency, and recovery. He is passionate about information sharing and building partnerships to enable understanding of emerging threats in this fast-changing industry. KC has previously been the chair of multiple industry groups and remains active in various security organizations and the with broader industry. KC has a degree in Computer Science and an MBA.
Mike Newborn currently serves as Navy Federal Credit Union’s Chief Information Security Officer with over 25 years of experience in the Information Security field. He is an experienced cyber leader with a passion for helping people, technology and cyber risk management.
Previously, Mike worked for McKinsey & Company where he served as the CISO for McKinsey Digital Labs as well as an Associate Partner where he advised many of the largest global corporations on how to plan, build and execute cybersecurity programs.
Prior to joining McKinsey, Mike served as a Bloomberg Chief Security Officer as well as managed the security for global critical infrastructure at VeriSign including the Internet’s DNS, PKI and SS7 systems.
Mike has a long history of hands-on leadership and has extensive operations experience in network security, vulnerability management, intrusion detection, application security, cloud security and governance risk and compliance.
Mike currently serves on the board of Cloudbreak Foundation, a non-profit organization helping the most vulnerable in society in the Washington DC metropolitan area. He has previously served on the board of Herndon Children’s Center, a non-profit organization providing childcare services.
Additionally, Mike actively serves on several advisory boards including: Blu Venture Investors (VC), IANS (decision support), and George Mason University Cyber Security Engineering (education).
